Day 5: Book: When art thou write?

Don’t we all dream of writing our books one day?

A dream that seems so distant yet so close. A dream that we all chase and want to live one day… a dream that makes us write religiously, a dream that doesn’t lets us give up on our thoughts… a dream so far yet so close!

The thought of seeing your name on the cover page of a book, the confidence to finally call yourself an ‘Author’, the idea to finally see all your hard work in paper right before your eyes…. Aren’t all these moments truly enchanting?

We all think of writing a book one day and it’s not only with the bloggers or writers or people who are fairly familiar with writing but as human beings, we all think of writing a book one day and yet very few of us actually write one.

Do you know, one of the top regrets that people have when they are on their death bed? It’s writing that book.... which never happened because they were so occupied making a life that they forgot to live it or do something they really wanted to do.

That’s the thing with all of us… we all think we have time… lots of time and yet one fine day we fall short of the uncountable time we had. The irony, isn’t it?

I too want to write a book and I am not waiting for that perfect day to begin but I am struggling with the inspiration… I am battling with the topic or the niche or anything you want to call it. I want the book to be like a book… something really solid, worth reading, something that readers would love to hook up to…. That is the reason why I dropped the idea of the e-book of the A to Z challenge. I felt that my posts were good as blog posts but not as strong and compelling to take the shape of a book. I realized the flaws in my writing from compiling it in a book’s perspective and I learned that there was so much more that was required to be written in order to make it call a…. BOOK.

We all learn with time and the learning never stops and that is what keeps us going.

With that note, I am going to take off with that dream in my eyes of writing on an exemplary book... One day!

Tell me what you have got to say on that?

Cheers

Day 3: Take up a Writing Course

Here comes the third day of the Barathon and I’m happy we’re surviving. The third thing on my wish list that I want to tick off soon is to Study writing.

I know there is no set pattern about writing that anyone can teach, but still, I want to take up a course and experience the classroom learning all over again. I miss that so much in my life. Being a student again, meeting strangers and then becoming friends, making mistakes and learning from them, having someone by your side to push you more and more towards your goals… wouldn’t it be great?

Source
I want to have that mentor in life who could show me the path or push me towards my dreams, just the way my teachers used to do! I’ve always been that kind of a student who has had a strong support system and that system always pushed me to do more and more.

Writing is something that comes from inside and yes, books are the best teachers (the only teachers I ignore the most) but I still want to attend workshops, may be a few days or attend a course in a reputed school and probably have this skill polished a bit, fine-tuned a bit… I don’t know if that is going to help or not but I do have this thing in my heart that I would want to pursue someday!

Do you too feel like undergoing a particular course? Are you up for being the student again?
Yes, or no, tell me all about it!

Cheers

R- Rich

In the lower middle-class family, a genius boy was born named Sumit. With the frugal money that his parents could save, they made him go to a good school. The boy had a knack for numbers and performed outstandingly well in Maths. He participated in various competitions, science Olympiads, inter-school events and so on. As he bagged prizes in the majority of the competitions, he earned himself a scholarship at IIT coaching classes. And there isn’t any surprise in the fact that he did have admission to the most prestigious institute of the country.

His charm couldn’t escape in college as well and soon everyone knew about him. After college, he bagged a good placement and then got married to a girl from the similar background as theirs.

As both of them were earning, their financial position improved drastically. Sumit made sure to improve their financial status and give his parents a comfortable life. He knew how difficult life had been for his parents and how much they struggled in their youth just to pay for his education. That is why he wanted to be rich. And give his parents a life that they had never dreamt of.

In between all of this his father died. It was a hard time for the family but they survived. Naturally, his mother was devastated, but soon she got the gift of the grandchild and she couldn’t be any happier.

While his wife decided to stay at home for the kids, Sumit soared new heights in his career... promotions and rewards kind of became the occasional thing to celebrate in the family. He made the kind of money that no one in his clan ever made. He had distant relatives who were quite well-off but Sumit left them all behind in the race of making money.

Soon, he became the CEO of the company which was valued a billion dollar enterprise. His work required him to travel overseas and their company knew know limits.

His interviews, articles, his achievements at such a less age were something every news article, magazine and journals were loaded with. He made a huge house for his family... which now had an additional member, his daughter, who was the apple of his eyes.

A lot of events were organized to award him for his achievements in life he was honored at a couple of events and was invited to felicitate the upcoming talent in the country. By this time, he was quite a celebrity. But one thing that made him so dear to everyone was in spite of being at the top and a global face now, he was always grounded to his roots! Never he ever that kind of snobbish attitude. He had always been a down to earth person.

Life was picture perfect. He had a huge house, a beautiful wife, two adorable kids, his mother and all the resources in the world. The family took frequent vacations abroad and lead a luxurious life.

His life is all set... and his wife and children are really lucky to enjoy this kind of life, what else could one ask for, one should live life the way they do, they have no worries in life, the kids too are smart, the mother has a great circle, and the old lady in the house is relishing the days nobody ever thought she would... this is what everyone who knew the family talked about!

They were living the life shown in the movies!

But this was not it. There was another side to it which only the family knew and they were fighting it day and night. Their daughter, who was only 4, was fighting cancer! She was diagnosed with blood cancer when she was 1 and since then, it was all about rushing to the hospitals and getting the right treatment. The doctors had told them she would hardly survive! It would be a miracle if she would be able to make it till 10! Not a single soul in the world knew the family would be going through so much! For, for the world, it was ‘the perfect life’ they were living. While in reality, they were fighting each day!

It didn’t matter then if he had money, it didn’t matter if he was rich and successful... all that mattered was the life of his daughter.

Q- Quit

It was during the middle session of one my previous batches when I felt something peculiar in the class. There was a student who found really hard coping up with the syllabus. Most of the teachers were annoyed with him because he had too many questions to ask and yet nothing really went in his head. He was always filled with doubts... self and in the books too. He stammered while speaking, he was different from the rest of the students.

He was never seen wasting his time, he was the most obedient student in the entire batch and also the most hard-working one!

But that wasn’t enough! Being innocent and different made his life a struggle. He was bullied by his classmates and was never informed about any plans that the class ever made. A few students did make an effort to help him out but kind of lost patience because of his questions.

A simple math problem which a class 4 boy could solve was a task for this boy.

I feared for him. I wanted to help him but I couldn’t understand how? I paid extra attention to him in the class, I made sure he understood everything well in the class by asking him questions and ensured he answered them as well, but then the next day, it all vanished! He wasn’t able to build bricks and connect dots. As it took a little extra time to explain him things, most of the class would often get annoyed with him, because this was something that happened in almost every lecture.

I was worried. With this kind of attitude, I knew he wouldn’t be able to clear his exams. Also, the current course is a simpler one, but the next level ahead wasn’t going to be easy. In fact, it would be so tough that he might end up leaving his studies forever. And I didn’t want that to happen.

What I couldn’t understand was if he was trying his best then why was he facing so much of issues in the class?

And then, one day I got the answer. I decided to talk to his parents to find out the real problem. And here is what I learned:

This student of mine was mentally challenged, with issues related to memory. He couldn’t retain a single thing, no matter how hard he tried. That was the reason he was always blank in the class. He couldn’t do his daily chores and his brain processed only half of the information thrown at him. He couldn’t figure anything at all for that matter. And yet, no one could ever make out his problem... that’s how well and perfectly normal he looked!
Source
I asked his parents the reason for choosing such a tough course? I mean, it would only hamper his self-esteem if he wouldn’t be able to make it. They could have enrolled him for a simpler course. But
I learned it was his choice... he wanted to go ahead with this course and his parents decided to support him irrespective of the consequences. They wanted him to be happy and help him build the road that he would proudly walk on!

That day onwards, I had so much of respect for this student and I was so proud of him for he never quit. He always tried and found his ways. Despite all the bullying and being a laughing stock for everyone in the class, he didn’t quit! Yes, he took more time than an average student would take, but what mattered was he refused to give up... every single time!

E- Extra Marital Affair

In the corner of a big city lived a girl named Lata. Born in a poor family didn’t give her any opportunity that is given to girls of her age. She didn’t go to school and got married at the age of 16. Also, she was a pretty woman and was fond of keeping herself presentable at all times. She loved buying cosmetics, new clothes, footwear, earrings and what not! But her pocket didn’t allow so.

Her marriage started on a sad note, with being abused and beaten every night and soon she was carrying a baby in her belly. A year passed and there was another child. Her husband was out on weekdays and came home only on weekends because of his work. Her in-laws never supported her for anything and whenever their son was home, they filled his ears with lies and foul statements about her.

But she never really bothered to explain anything because she knew it in her heart nothing’s going to change and she kind of learned to live with it.

Soon there was a financial crisis in the family and she had to look for work in order to meet the ends. Soon she landed with a cook’s job!

Every day, she would get up on time and finish her house chores and leave for work, all decked up from top to bottom. No one could ever say that she was the house staff. She looked more like the owner of the house. Neatly draped saree with a fashionable deep neck blouse, a big bindi, bangles, chain, and fancy accessories were a few mandatory things without which she wouldn’t leave the house.

As she was earning, their financial condition improved! She started spending money wisely. Her expenses were distributed in such a way that she could meet the daily needs along with giving her children quality food, clothes, and other necessary items.

During this while, she fell for a man. She would take leave from work or leave a little early to meet him and while at work, she would spend afternoons on phone talking to that guy.

A few people in her neighborhood saw her with that man and labeled her as a characterless woman. Ladies prohibited their teenage daughters from being seen anywhere around her.

Yes, there was a fear in her mind... what if the husband finds out? He would kill her!

But she didn’t feel guilty about any of it!

No one valued her in the house; husband didn’t have time for her, and no one ever appreciated how drastically she improved everything in the house! She worked day and night but no one was bothered about her.

In the midst of this, when she met a man who had all his attention to her, who had time for her, who had fallen for her and who would do anything to make her happy, she couldn’t resist and started her affair with him. She knew it was wrong and... temporary, but all she cared for was a few moments of love and being loved in her life!

I am not vouching for an affair but tell me where was she wrong? Yes, having an affair outside marriage is condemned big time, but who doesn’t want to be loved? She couldn’t quit her marriage! Her father was ill; her brothers would never take her back. Where would she go? And in between all of this, her children’s life would be spoilt.

She wouldn’t risk their lives! And so she chose to have an extra-marital affair and risk her life instead!

Tell me your thoughts, right here, right now!

Let's see the Other Side: Theme Reveal #AtoZChallenge

A to Z Challenge is like the biggest mela that happens once in a year round the globe! The baap of all the challenges has become such a massive affair not just because of the huge numbers that sign up for it, but more so because the madness it creates and the thrill it brings around the globe. And believe me, the number keeps on rising every year!

This is the third year in a row of my A to Z experience, and I can’t be any happier. When I participated the first time, everything was haywire. There was no theme, no posts scheduled and no planning at all. And yet the challenge was fun! That's the magic of AtoZ!

The second year, I chose a theme and scheduled a few posts beforehand. Choosing a theme gives a lot of perspectives and makes your write ups more sorted. Sure, I was running behind after a few scheduled posts!

And here I am for the third year now. I’m sure it’s going to be equally fun! As I am writing this, a kind of anxiousness is running behind my mind because I haven’t scheduled a single post as yet!

Don’t know how it’s going to unfurl this year?! Until this moment, I was having second thoughts about continuing with this theme, but I think I'll go for it!

Now, time to reveal the theme for April AtoZ Challenge, 2017. Can we have the drum rolls, please!

My theme for this year is:

Let’s look things differently!

Yes, this year, I want to bring out the things where we see things in a conventional way and yet every story has its own side, the one which we fail to see and draw conclusions. Every day, there will be instances that will bring us to the reality we all live in. By writing on this theme, I hope it will change things a bit, give new dimensions to our perspective and help us be those compassionate individuals who’re willing to be the change in our society and make it a better place!

Get ready to get on the magical ride of the daily nuances that happen in all our lives. If only, we pay them to heed and see on a positive note! Some will be happy ones while some would make you ponder for a lot of things that prevail in our society.

I hope you enjoy reading the posts, as much as I’d enjoy writing them! Stay tuned!

Have a month full of reading and writing!

Cheers

#Valentine'sSpecial

Source
So I was sulking and ignoring him.

There are days when something happens that I don’t like and I go, mum. Period.

And today, when I got home from class, he was getting ready for work. And I obviously, ignored him again and moved on.

And there, he held my hand!

‘What happened?’

‘Nothing’

‘Then why all quiet?’

‘I’m fine. You say wassup?’

‘Come here, you’, bringing me close, ‘Happy Valentine’s Day’, and in a flurry of seconds, my heart melted away, and sulkiness vanished!

I smiled and giggled and looked a bit surprised and hugged him, wishing him the same!

                                                                     ****

This 101-word drabble is written for the occasion you all are drowned in! Happy Valentine's Day to you.

Angels into Demons

The moment I close the doors
Of my room,
And am left with me all alone
The room is filled with nothing but gloom!

The angels that were dancing in the daylight
Get all melancholic, laughing at my plight
That’s when the demons come out in the dark
And show me the reality that is so stark!

‘You’re good for nothing’
‘Nothing good have you ever done in your life,
Not a single thing’
‘You will have to wait more for your happiness’
Thoughts like these bring out all the snappiness!

No Facebook newsfeed, no tweets on Twitter,
No snaps on Snapchat, and no updates on Insta,
Nothing seems to distract away the vicious thoughts
Nothing that can vanish away the woes, no friends, no folks, not even siesta!

The more you’ll lock up yourself,
The more you’re going to get trapped
Go out and breathe away the fresh air
Glow in the sunshine and get all wrapped!

And then I open my heart
And walk my way, for a new start
Finding my inspiration, with hopes held high
Walk past the demons with relief and give a sigh!

8 Things 2016 taught me

2016 had mostly been a rough year for many of us. For me, it was good in a lot of aspects, yet was quite sluggish towards the end. The joy 2015 on the writing front was nullified in 2016 :P. There were some great travel stories, fun, surprises and a few lessons which I would want to take forward. Sure I am going to share them here on myspace. C'mon, now let's explore them.

1. Your family is the one only who truly loves you the way you are. Everyone else will always do/say things against you at one point in life.

2. No one really cares about things they say they do.

3. Your work always speaks for you, more than ever you can say for yourself. Love doing it.

4. Commitment is important. It will always make you a better person. A better version of you.

5. No one but you can help yourself. Love yourself and discover the power within you.

6. Try to limit your words. Yes, it's coming from me (:P). This year, I shall be looking towards the art of speaking less.

7. Observe people around. Watch out their actions. Be more vigilant. This is something, I really really need to learn. Being gullible hasn't been a very positive thing for me. I just believe what people say or show. But there's always more to it. Which I fail to understand or simply just ignore.

8. Fight for your dreams. At the end of the day, they'll be the ones that will give you peace of mind.

Writing sure is therapeutic.

I feel happy after writing. And I shall be doing it more often now. Enough of going into the space of not writing!

Looking forward to a lot of things in terms of writing in 2017, which I couldn't do last year. Happy New Year.

What were your lessons from the year gone? Anything you wanna share?

Happy Reading

Are you Socially Unsocial? I am!

Yes, I am. There. I said it.

Believe me, I am a social person, not in extremes but I am not that bad either.

But when it comes to socializing online, I suck at it. I hardly make conversations, I barely comment and scarcely share my personal life on social media. I won’t say I don’t share at all, but whatever I do is minimal stuff. I am a part of various groups online, groups that support each other, and I don’t speak much there as well. I open my mouth, err, I use my keypad only when it is required. Otherwise I stay mum. I know it's not a very good thing.

I’m still figuring out, why?

Am I a socially introvert person? Yes, big time!
You belong to which category? Extrovert or introvert?

I don’t know where is it written but some people tend to call writers as introverts, which is not correct. There are so many excellent writers I know who cannot stop talking at all. So are they bad wat writing? Not at all!

Labelling writers as introverts is a faux statement.
Yes, writing does give the power to express yourself, words do become your armour and your shield, brings a lot of confidence as well to voice the opinion one had in their heads for a while and give wings to fly in the world of social media, without the fear of falling.

But how many of you talk a lot in social gatherings, are very cheerful with everyone and making a conversation isn’t a task? But you do have a problem when it comes to engaging with people online? Not problem per se, how about hesitation? How about being an introvert online? You do tend to talk to a lot of people when you meet them or strangers for that matter, but when it comes to making conversations with netizens or anyone, you are the first one to hide behind the curtains, where nobody can see you. I am one of them!

I can really talk. Offline. Period.

But when it comes to communicating online, I fail at it. Miserably! Is it a social block? I don’t know what to term it.

I want to have a writing buddy and I haven’t had one yet. Why? You know it by now, don’t you? I haven't approached for it to anyone. Why? May be fear, may be hesitation.

I don’t know why that happens? It just doesn’t click me. No right buttons for the right answers, presence of mind becomes a distant dream, cracking jokes and making funny statements becomes a task, much more difficult than History and Geography as subjects in school!

Sometimes I wonder, why? Why is it such a big deal?

Social media does build pressure on people. Pressure to be liked, pressure to be accepted, and pressure to not be criticized for making a space for yourself. People tend to feel bad real soon, things are taken personally by the ones who weren’t even close to the context, and the outrage is started by the ones who’re completely alien towards the matter.

Not that something has happened with me personally, but I just can’t come out of this shell that is built around me.

Does this happens with you as well? If yes, then how do you deal with it? Have you come out of it? If yes, then how? Share with me, tell me the tricks. Who knows what wonders it might do!

I’m participating in Half Marathon Blogging Challenge with Blogchatter. Today is Day 1 of the challenge.

P.S: I hope to survive this challenge in this slump phase of my writing.

Year of Firsts that was 2015

As I sit with my laptop, thinking about how 2015 went by, the only thing that comes to me is how glorious the year turned out for me. 2015 was perhaps, the most resplendent year of my life, both in terms of my personal and professional life. It was a year that satiated the dreamer in me. Yes, there were specks of sorrows as well, but then what’s true happiness if there’s no sadness? And I am glad I could overcome all of it and didn’t let my fiery spirit die. There are so many things that I am grateful for, so much that 2015 has given me, of course, I had to jot it down and embrace everything around!

Here’s listing below my learning’s, my gratitude this year-

1. It was a year of so many Firsts! My first post being published on web, first win at Writer’s Ezine, my first post winning at Blogadda along with being published at Women’s Web and attending a conference for the same, celebrating first Teacher’s Day, asked to review a book for the first time, receiving a gift from Secret Santa for the first time, first Tangy Tuesday pick at Blogadda, receiving the first bloggeraward, celebrating Friendships Day first time with Myself, having the first WOW post, being published at Story Mirror. Gosh! It truly was a year of Firsts! Not to mention my story and poems have made to the anthology this year which shall be published soon! And as I write this post, I realize there is a glow of happiness on my face, which I completely devour.

2. I realized as and when you grow, it’s hard to maintain that same level of your friendship alive. It takes lot many efforts for things to remain the same. But friends are the wonderful family one can ever have. They will be there through your thick and thin and I am so glad to have them.

3. When I read my reflections post of January this year, I found out about being so paranoid about my writing, and the ritual to maintain it. Today, I only laugh at it, but somewhere deep down, I am still worried, and yet there exists so much of gratification inside me for completing it religiously.

4. One thing that I am really willing to carry forward next year is the fact it is you and only you who can help yourself more than anyone in the world. There will be people who will try to bring their hands forward, but you can blossom only if you’re willing to. And that power lies inside you. As they say, to get something you’ve never got before, you need to make efforts you’ve never made before! Makes sense?

5. I learnt that if you’re quiet about something, and don’t have the habit of exaggerating too much, you’re going to be taken lightly! Yes. You heard me right! Anything, that you do, you constantly need to remind others what you did, otherwise they forget easy. But then I feel, it’s not always about accentuating what you do; it is more about doing anything that comes straight from heart! I am really confused on this. Any suggestions from you?

6. This year helped me learn a lot about myself, my family, and the dynamics about how things works, and it is all for good.

7. Technology, it does connect with the ones far from you, but takes you far from the ones sitting near you. I realized everything on social media (or may be most of it) is a sham! Nothing is perfect in the world. No one is. Egging upon sharing every iota detail of your life only makes you look desperate. Come out of the virtual world, and embrace the real world around you. I am not saying that it is bad, but getting addicted to it is bad.

8. In life, there is nothing gray for me. It is either black or white. This year I hope to discover the gray area as well. For my own good. It’s important to understand the politics that goes around you and in order to avert yourself from it, you need to move to the gray area and understand it first.

9. Family comes first, no matter what. It was a year of revelation for me. There were a few things where I thought my family would barely understand me, but they were way more ahead in taking action for the problems that circled me.

10.  I can never express the amount of love I have been showered upon this year. Boosting my inner self and having the confidence to take things a step ahead is what this year has taught me.

I’m sharing my #TalesOf2015 with BlogAdda.

How was your 2015? What is that one thing that you wish to take forward for 2016? Share with me and I’ll be more than happy!

Wishing you all a very Happy and Prosperous New Year.

Writing Ritual.. not for Me!

O no! Strictly no ritual. It’s simply random. When there is a writing challenge, then my writing juices flow, and get a kickstart.. Or whenever any incident has triggered me a lot and left an effect deep down, writing is the only escape I have to keep my sanity alive. Sometimes, there are people who really annoy us in ways we never imagine, writing a blogpost or probably an article does wonders (I know I’m sliding towards the demons side now :P). The routine itself isn’t fixed, then how can writing be?
That's what I do!
You tell me, do you have a fixed routine? If yes, then how are you able to maintain consistency with it?

P.S- I’m really running out of time, hence such a short write up.. I know, I know, you’re glad.. but not more than me :P ;)

Why I blog?

Why do I blog?

To know why I blog, I think I should first analyze why I write?

I write simply because I feel contended after writing. I haven’t yet realized if it is my passion. I am still discovering.. my writing as well as myself. Writing gives me peace of mind. It started when I didn’t have any friends, not a single shoulder to cry on, not a single creature around me to hear my tale.. just my diary and my pen. I know, it's quite a cliché.. but there is a reason why they're called clichés.. don’t you think?
I am not very assertive.. in person,.. writing, I don’t really know yet and I’m not aggressive either.. I just want to give words to my soul, let the inner side come out and make space, and writing is the best way to do so.. I am verbose as well and express what I really feel in an instant, but writing makes it all so special..

A simple hand written note matters much more than pricey gifts.. Words mean so much to me.. and I love to write for others as well.
Gradually, when I came out of the aloofness, I realized I could write happy things.. special things.. and then I started expressing myself with my writing.. to friends of course.. And then these folks pushed me to write more and more.. I am not a writer yet, and I know my writing requires LOTS of improvement, and it will take time as well, but as long as I’m writing consistently, who knows where I might reach with this simple, not-so-good- collection of alphabets merged together to uncover something meaningful, to which even I am oblivious!
I write because there is no other way I have to make myself clear. When I have something on my mind, but not the right person to share, or may be the topic is something that I’d like to keep it to myself, writing takes over everything. And I am glad about that!

Writing is therapeutic.. it heals our crooked broken soul and soothes it by oozing out words, ready to be heard, or written!

And that is where blog comes in. It’s like being the star.. the owner.. typing in your own name or the name you choose, is what thrilled me the most.. I mean come on, we search like a zillion pages online, enter umpteen website names of someone we don’t even know.. and now we have a way to let people enter the name we choose..! Along with being heard or read.. it seemed so exciting to me.
I wasn’t regular with my blog at all initially (you can check how meagrely I posted), I really had to push myself to write something on this space. And then A-to-Z challenge happened this year.. And I am so grateful I participated in it.. Until then, I barely knew anyone on Blogosphere.. I only used to read Soumya’s blog and follow her diligently.. and I really loved her writings.. and then she helped me out, with how I can do more with it on my blog and I cannot thank her enough for that.. And then I joined B-A-R.. or I should say, THE B-A-R.. and that is best thing that has happened with me this year, in the world of writing! Knowing so many proficient writers and reading their beautiful creations, interacting with them, learning from them, sharing with them, getting a push from them to write more and more.. I don’t know if I need anything else?! I just feel so happy.. that is it!

Blogging has become so very special to me right now, a part of my life I can’t probably imagine without!

What is blogging for you? How did you get started with this beautiful journey? I’m all ready to listen..
