‘Is she going to take our class?’
'I know. She’s so young. What does she know about us and our subjects?’
After the first class
‘She looked pretty nervous’
‘She fumbled too. I doubt she’ll stay here for long’
Exactly after 6 months at the Felicitation program.
‘Dude, my AIR’s credit goes to her’
‘Yeah! She’s the best teacher our institute has’
‘No wonder we were so wrong about her!’
‘Hey! It wasn’t our fault. She looked like us, yes, a bit more presentable and smart, but mostly like us! Anyone would confuse her for a student’
‘Only that she isn’t’

Wow! I'm so glad to have read this story. Isn't it just marvelous that she evolved as a teacher and a great one at that.

I've uttered those same words about the best math teacher in our classes. I used to tease him so much, because he looked new and totally inexperienced. But when he started teaching us, it was fab! I still remember the little tips and tricks he used to give us on how to solve math sums quickly!
ReplyDeleteThis post brought back beautiful memories, Geetika :)
It happens with all of us I guess... New teacher and we're so ready to judge!
DeleteCheers
Been there, done that. Am so glad now I try to slow down with the judging... :)
ReplyDeleteGood J!

Don't we all do just that: Judging especially by the cover! Glad the young lady proved them all wrong!

i am sure this is a true story :D When few of my batch mates joined as lecturers just after passing out, they looked so young ... but their maturity showed in their teaching :)

Appearances can be deceptive! :D This has happened many times in many places. Judge people through their deeds and not anything else.
ReplyDeleteJudging is kind of in!
DeleteSad indeed!

I guess most of us have done that to our teachers who look our age.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed reading it :)

I agree. We should not judge right away. Everyone deserves the chance to prove themselves. Great story with an important lesson.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Mary!

Ah this passing a judgement without waiting for people to prove themselves. Crazy.
ReplyDeleteIt sure is crazy!
DeleteThanks Tulika :)

Is that your story? :) Good one Geetika! Students can get judgmental.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is :) How do you know ?
DeleteStudents are judgmental all the time!

Aren't we all guilty of judging people at one point or the other?
ReplyDeleteWonderfully written Geetika.
You've captured the sentiment beautifully :)
