Day 4: Tick off the Adventures

I’m not sure since when but I’ve always loved adventures. The adrenaline rush in the body, the spine chilling fear of seeing the death from so close (okay maybe this is too much of exaggeration but you got the point), the thrill and the excitement of doing things, going to the dark places, risky places… sure they scare the hell out of me but in some corner of my mind I also have this urge to know what’s behind the darkness, what is it that we fear so much and in the lure of finding out, I always choose such places and feel triumphant after coming out safe :P

There are a few adventures I have ticked off from the list but did I tell you, I have a long list? : P

Scuba diving, river rafting, parasailing, trekking, snorkelling, undersea walking, riding on the world’s fastest roller coaster in the world, go karting, cliff jumping, flying fox, river crossing, zorbing, and free fall are already ticked off from the list but there are many that are still waiting for their turns!

Skydiving in New Zealand and over the Palm Islands (Dubai), bungee jumping, riding that swing in Ecuador, Skiing, attend the Tomatina festival in Spain, go overseas all alone for a trip, are the ones that are yet to see the light of the day (the list is not over but these are the ones I can think of at the moment).

Swimming doesn’t count in adventures but its one thing that is there on my mind from a long time and I’m sure I’m going to learn it someday.

None of them is inspired by Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara but the urge has only grown more after watching the movie.

Are you an adventurous person? Do you have a wish list for them? Share with me and give me more ideas… who knows we might end up doing it together!

Cheers

Day 2: Take a girl’s trip at least once in year ;)

Now, this is something that I plan every year and I have to tick it off year-on-year. The fad started when I began reading more articles on solo traveling and stuff. While, I’m still not comfortable taking a trip all alone (I don’t fear it but I feel a company would make the trip much better), taking a trip with my girls has done so much more to my soul than I ever thought it would do.

This is something I always look forward to. Sometimes, because of work, A (husband) gets stuck and we’re not able to go around together, but the travel bite in me keeps pestering to take the trip even if it means going without him. I don’t know why, but the idea of going out from the city entices me a lot.

Last year, I took a trip to Kasol with my sister revelation. We learned a lot of things on the trip, which I barely think about when I go with the husband.

Then there was another trip to Calcutta with the ladies in the house (it was my MIL and SIL). More than me, it was them who were more than happy to go without their husbands. It was the first time for them in so many years of their marriage and that trip kind of opened their courage for more trips without their husbands: P

This year, after being stuck in the regular routine along with battling a lot of on stress, I finally gave in to the idea of taking a break from everything and just have some time to myself without giving second thoughts to it.

I’m happy that I have that kind of friends who’re there for you when you really want to be with them and would travel miles just to have each other’s company. This trip was to Bombay and Pune! It was nostalgic and rejuvenating! At least for me. And them, of course… I guess.

Peek-a-Boo

It mended certain irreparable things and this came as a total surprise! Everything went well and left us to look forward to more such trips.

Wherever you are, whatever is happening in your life, try to find a way and take a trip with your girls… it will heal your soul in ways you never knew ever existed. And if you have already taken one, then don’t stop… keep this ritual alive and see wonders happening to yourself.

Cheers

Barathon Day 1- Theme reveal and more...

After pushing and dragging myself endlessly to write for this challenge, I am finally trying to place some words here. Some days, writing just doesn’t come to you and yet you are compelled to write. I feel this is one wonderful role that challenges play and this is why I always look up to them.

They push you beyond your limits and force you to write when every single bone of your body prefers to give up.

When I heard of Barathon (organised by Blog-A-Rhythm), I happily signed up for it. What I didn’t see coming was the fact that it would take so much of pain to come up with a theme and write a post on all 7 days. Even now, writing an entire blog post seems like a task.

Enough of ranting, let’s come to the theme now. Did I tell you what is the theme going to be all about? Obviously not! If only, I’m done with the ranting (*rolling eyes*)

My theme for this year’s Barathon will be:

‘7 Things on my Bucket list and why’

While writing only 7 is a task, I’ll to cover big things or may be important things that I really want in life. But that doesn’t mean there are only 7! It only means that I have less number to put here: P

Travel the World:
This one goes without saying for I guess, all of us! But one place that is there on my mind for quite some time is Ecuador. Do you know why? Because it’s the edge of the world! Okay, there’s nothing like a flat surface there, where you can reach the edge, but it has a swing at the end of the world!

This swing is without the harness, without any safety equipment, without any net! It’s nothing more than a wooden plank suspended by two ropes and it arcs the riders out in the air over the canyon. I think this is one place that will take a real test of everyone who calls themselves adventurous souls!

While Ecuador has been on my mind for quite some time, there are other places as well which I fancy all the time.

Sharing the picture only for this one... getting how excited I am to try this?!
I want to try a hash brownie in Amsterdam and get high and probably sit on the road just for fun! I don’t know why I think like this, but I do have this image in my head!

I want to kiss my husband under the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Hey! It’s my wish list… I can think whatever I want!

I want to go to New York and stay there for some time! New York always fascinates me and ever since I’ve seen Sex and the City (am talking about the series here and NOT the movie), this urge has become stronger.

I want to go to Switzerland and feel the beauty on Earth, climb those snow-clad mountains and play in the snow with my favorite people, reach the top of the world and have wine in those chilly winds!

Then I have Egypt on my mind… to see the pyramids and the Mummies. Ever since I’ve studied about it History books in school, I’ve fascinated the place like none other!

I want to go Australia and New Zealand… Australia is beautiful and New Zealand has the world’s best skydiving thing and I just want to do it before I die!

While there are other places as well on my mind, but the ones mentioned above obviously tops the list!

What places are there on your mind you’d like to go before dying? I’m sure there must be many… why not write them here and share the list?

Cheers

For a Splendid stay like this...

This year too I was having second thoughts about our New Year plan. Like last year, I didn’t want it to get cancel. Making a bigger plan and then settling with not-so-big one sure leaves you empty hearted. And I was in no mood to get all nostalgic about the similar situation this year.

As it is our plans get take shape last moment, this year was no different. I was pretty excited for New Years. Honestly, I wanted to take a trip abroad or maybe go Goa, but then we wouldn’t have our friends’ company. Now let me tell you, my husband and I, most of the times want our friends around us. Isn’t it always great to have your favorite people around, especially on occasions like these? Anyway, it’s always the more, the merrier.

So we decided to celebrate it together with our best friends.

See, if you want to party, the nearest place from Kanpur is Lucknow, but we didn’t want to go there.

We settled for Delhi and started looking for our stay. As we were already late and given it was New Years time, we were a bit unsure of finding a suitable place.

We travel to places frequently and book our stay according to our budget. But c’mon folks, it was New Years, how could we stay anywhere less than a 5 star? :P ;) Also, as they say, what you do on the first day of the year, you continue to do it the whole year! Now, who would want to risk staying at a regular hotel on New Years? I know, I wouldn’t and given this saying about new years, why not increase your chances this year?

And so, after scouting a couple of hotels and the New Year’s party that they were going to host, we picked The Lalit New Delhi as our choice of accommodation.

|Don’t you feel a tinge of happiness and a few goose bumps thinking about your stay at a  luxury hotel?

Located in the heart of the city, The Lalit is one of the finest luxury hotels in India. Malls, buzzing cafes, heritage monuments and shopping centers are few things to mention that can be easily reached from here.

As we had made our bookings prior through Makemytrip, checking-in wasn’t a hassle. The deals that you get on Makemytrip, I can bet you wouldn’t find those kinds of deals with any other portal.

So yes, there was a rush and the place was crowded, but the staff was patient enough to help us out. We had to book an extra room last minute and the staff helped us through that process with full courtesy. And guess what? We got an up gradation to the Premiere Luxury room!

Hell yeah! I was thrilled!

Our room was on the 19th floor and the view it offered was spectacular! The window was large, giving the perfect picturesque for us to relish. The room was spacious and had a bathtub attached in our bathroom.
Isn't it gorgeous?

We had planned our New Year party at Kitty Su, which is a nightclub in the hotel itself. Before the party would start, we decided to take a tour of the same. And man, it was spectacular. The club’s decor was artisan chic, defining the perfect opulence that you would want offering an experience for a lifetime on its exquisite dance floor. No wonder, it’s the only Indian club that is rated amongst the top 100 clubs in the world by DJ Mag.

Sure it was beyond our expectations. The party was wild (in a good way), the DJ was playing excellent music, allowing us to groove and move.  The crowd was good, the food was delicious and the drinks were just fine.

You want to sneak in? Not possible now, but you can have a look at a few pictures below!

Us and our Friends, at the hotel!

Next day began with the sumptuous breakfast, serving the most eclectic assortments of cuisines. You name it and you got it. What took away my fancy was the delectable chocolate sauce which was served with the waffles. Something was different about it, so much so that I wouldn't stop craving it. On January 1, 2017, after coming out of our hangover we reached for the breakfast and were obviously, late. Breakfast was almost going to get pack up and there I was, still craving for the chocolate sauce, which was finished by then. We requested the staff and see this is what he got for us and made our day!

Finger licking good, isn't it?

What caught my sight while taking a tour of the hotel was the sprawling swimming pool. Isn’t it a beauty? (see in the picture above). My favorites were the lounge chairs and guess what? There was a cafe as well. The perfect way to satiate your hunger.

The best part of 5-star hotels is their spa. The award-winning, Rejuve- The Spa, Lalit, takes you to the land of tranquillity. Getting a spa therapy, to relax and rejuvenate your soul is the best thing to do to yourself when you’re on a holiday. Due to the New Year occasion, I got a good deal at The Rejuve, and allowed myself to pamper a bit. And loved it to bits. That was the best part of the whole trip, to be honest. The masseuses were polite and extremely gentle with their hands, and the ambiance was just perfect.

I sure am coming for the massage next time as well!

My 2-day stay at The Lalit New Delhi was comfortable and I totally allowed myself to devour in its luxury.

It was the courtesy of the hotel and our experience during the stay that made us realize we made the right choice!

There is something about the 5-star properties. The effort they take in making your stay the best, letting you indulge in kinds of whims and fancies, giving you a memorable experience, be it about food, or the impeccable service, or the courteous staff or the cleanliness and hygiene and above all, the marvelous infrastructure, every penny spent is worthwhile.

And for a splendid stay like this, I’d like to come again. And again!

Tell me what do you choose in your holidays? Is the stay that matters to you the most or is it the other things? For me, having a good, comfortable, luxurious stay is most of the times the priority ;) Share your experiences below and I’ll be more than happy to hear.

I am blogging about my luxury stay experience for an activity at BlogAdda in association with MakeMyTrip.

Gratitude list- August

Source
August was all about happiness, festivity, good times, family and friends! And that month too passed. And here we are in September! Can’t believe this year is going to be over soon! Anyway, that’s how August treated me:

- This month I travelled to my hometown and took the much-awaited solo trip. Actually, it wasn’t solo, it was dolo :P (coz it was my sister and me who took this trip together). Both of us wanted to do it and we finally did it this month. We went to Kasol and it was different. We met quite a variety of people in our journey and explored things that we hadn’t before. I am happy that we were back safely and the trip was filled with fun, laughter and adventures! I feel grateful for the wonderful family and even more understanding husband that I have! Not even once did he question or hitched about the idea of travelling solo. Touchwood!

- Then was the celebration time! Rakshabandhan! And the day was filled with meeting all the relatives and keep the joy of festivity alive. Isn’t it fun to meet all the family members after a long time? And the joy simply doubles when the gathering falls on festivals!

- I was home and happy to be back. No matter how much I wander here and there, but it always feels back to be home, in the same room, with the same man :P! It’s peaceful.

- My mother's recovery is on track and it was bliss to her doing her own chores, move out and do whatever she wanted to do.

- Two of my dear friends visited my city and it was... nostalgic to meet them! We've completed a decade together and we realised how kiddos we used to be and now we're all grown-ups! It's really a strange feeling!

Lots of things have been happening around and this month is going to bring in even more. I am happy that with every passing day, I trying to learn new things and understand a lot of stuff that works around me!

How did August treat you? And what are your plans for September? Anything special coming up? Share with me in the comments below.

Cheers

Phust AC, Phust Class

3.00 AM

Piippiipp... Piipppiipip... Piiipppiiipip.. Snooze.

After 5 minutes

Piippiipp... Piipppiipip... Piiipppiiipip.. Snooze again

After 5 minutes

Piippiipp... Piipppiipip... Piiipppiiipip..What the hell it is? It’s 3 in the morning. Why am I even listening to this alarm?

“Gee..; get up. We got to catch the train. The alarm is ringing”

“O yeah! Dammit! I completely forgot. You get up first, please

“Okay 5 minutes more”

“Okay”

After 5 minutes

“Get up, you said you will”

“Yeah. I know”

Yes! I get to sleep a bit more. Happiness.

Sleeping at 1.30 in the morning and getting up at such an unearthly hour at 3.30 again, only to catch a train at 5 seems like the futile thing to do. Where are we even going? And why? O yeah! To Delhi.. to attend his friend’s wedding! But why to catch a train this early? Can someone ask my inner goddess to simply shut up and stop with all the gazillion questions in the morning!

Yeah, now it feels peace.

When it comes to travelling, I really dread leaving early mornings! O no, I don’t fear getting up. That I can handle very well. But what about getting fresh? No, not the toothbrush toothpaste wala fresh.
You got what am I talking right? No? You didn’t? Okay, okay, I am talking about doing the daily ritual that makes us all feel fresh all day, only, if we get fresh in the morning!

Still not clear? O God.. now don’t judge me for saying things explicitly. I am talking about shit! Poop! Yes. Potty, to precise! It is so important to do it, for all of us, every day, in the morning! Without eating anything!

O! Voila..! I finally said it.-----feeling light :P

Everyone has their own body clock and their systems work different. There are people, who go to shit, the moment they get up from bed. Lucky they are!

There are ones who have lukewarm water or other substitutes (tea/coffee) first and then shit. These are the ones who have a set time at which their morning ritual functions. And the system doesn’t drop anything, at all, if called at an unearthly hour (if you know what I mean ;)) and then there are the ones who don’t do it in the morning. They do it when it comes!

Okay, I know I’m running the risk of getting called dirty here. But never mind.

I come in the second category. My body clock has a certain time, and anytime before that (specially as early as 3), I know my body will ditch. For sure. But that’s not what worries me. What makes me anxious is the fact that what if I feel pressure during the journey? You know the state of Indian railways right? Or what if it doesn’t come at all? My entire journey would get ruined. Yes, that’s how it works me. I feel cranky all day.

I hate this trip. I hate this man. I hate this hour. And I hate his friend. Plus, I haven't had my shit yet! Urgghh!

Nevertheless, we reached the station and boarded the train at 5. It was supposed to leave in 5 minutes, but it didn’t. Now did I tell you that we were travelling in First AC coach? Me for the first time, to be precise.
When we entered our cabin, the other passengers were obviously sleeping. Trying not to disturb them, the attendant helped us settle with our luggage and stuff and we were all set within minutes. Sweet guy he was. But hey, hey, hey1 It's Indian Railways! It can't be perfect!
A, took the lower berth and I the upper one. I sat on his berth for a while, waiting for the train to start. A was wondering what I was doing then, and why wasn’t I going on my berth. I told him I had to pee and so was waiting for the train to move. We’re not suppose to use the loo, when the train is at halt right? It stinks so much if at halt.

Moments later, the train started moving and I finally made way towards the toilet. I don’t know what had gotten into me, but I just moved and saw a board that said “Western Commode” and I clearly chose the other door, opposite to that. The attendant outside, was trying to say something, (OOaauuu uuuooumm) which I definitely ignored. When I went inside, I realized the area was pretty compact. It was anything but toilet (neither Indian nor Western!). I wondered for a few seconds and then saw a hand faucet. With the option of warm and cold water. It took me a few more moments to realize I was standing in the Shower room! But since when does train have shower rooms? Or rather, who takes shower in the train? I instantly came out. And then the attendant said again, “Madam, shower room”. (realizing what he was saying before) What a jerk I was.

Unwillingly, I entered the Western Commode. God, why no Indian commode here? It must be so dirty. And then it’s pretty risky as well. God help me!

Wooosh! What am I seeing?! A western commode in the Indian Railways, shining like a newly wedded bride! Okay that’s too much of the exaggeration. But it was ultra clean. With a toilet paper, neatly rolled, thick liquid hand soap, a clean basin and guess what? Best of all, a hand shower!!
Yes..!! A hand faucet in a working condition. Again in the toilet of rails! And this is not the end. There’s more to it. Guess what? It had flush as well! Woohoo! I mean can you beat that? I was so thrilled. Just seeing the toilet made my journey. I know it’s pretty weird. But given the fact, how paranoid I was getting, I knew my journey would now be light and happy! :D

When I was back in the cabin, A, could see the excitement and happiness on my face. And he was confused more than surprised to see such a big grin right after coming from, you know where!

He asked me the reason for the same and all I could say was, “A, it’s not patri wali” (A, it’s not the railway track ones) and I couldn’t stop laughing and he too laughed a little and shhhddd me. People will listen, be slow! But I just couldn’t stop myself from laughing. I mean what a doofus I was. And I was waiting for the train to move, to go for my nature’s call.

Okay, so that means I can go even when the train was at halt. Yes!

As I couldn’t do my morning ritual at home, I did it during my journey, with so much ease and peace. Oh God, what a relief it was! Pure bliss.

I took a nap for a while and then got up. We got the newspaper and breakfast was served. On a separate stool and a personal assistant to take care of the needs. Just the way it happens in a flight. How we have the liberty to press the button and the attendants come to get us, that’s the way how it was there. And that guy, who attended us and served us breakfast and everything, he was so cute. He looked decent, and simple, educated and cute! What the hell was he doing there? Sweet!

Our journey was full of refreshments and goodies and an immense amount of satisfaction and respect for Indian Railways. The cabin was spotless, the service was impeccable and the refreshments and breakfast too were edible. And the toilets, O they were heaven! They were my saviour and the highlights of the journey. For the first time.

It was a delightful experience. And of course, I made proper utilization of resources! ;) :P :D

P.S: The train was Kolkata Rajdhani and the experience there was exemplary!

The state of Indian Railways has really changed. And it’s quite a visible one. Don’t you think?

How are your experiences when you travel in a train? Especially with the long journey? Don’t you see the changes at railways stations and in the trains? Share your words and I’ll be more than happy.

Reflections- September

Yes..I know I’m a bit late for this, but then, better late than never! I was going through this phase which I’m sure all of you experience. Finding that inspiration to write, or sincerely making an effort to hold that pen and scribble a few thoughts, trying to push so hard and yet not able to get a single word on paper! Yes.. that was going on with me. Work was equally busy, but it wasn’t like I didn’t have time to write. Of course, I did.. But, like I said.. it just wasn’t happening. Egging on to read other’s blogs was not coming out at all. And I simply hate this phase. I knew I was missing so much and yet it was serene for me?! Weird feeling it is.

Anyway, September started with a blast with a wonderful Teacher’s day celebration! Not to mention, it only happened in my class, and all the surprise was planned by my dear students! A wonderful handmade card, with beautiful messages written inside.. My Goodness, it was a feeling that can’t be penned in words.

And imagine, I had to take test that day. Okay, stop rolling your eyes.. I’m not that bad.. the test didn’t happen.. Obviously, it got cancelled!

That same day, before entering the class, I was so annoyed with the entire system, the area where the institute is located is really congested and so parking becomes a major issue. That very day, I had to struggle so much to find the space for parking, plus the annoying shopkeepers who don’t want to co-operate at all, and seeing the lady driver, all one can see is, Oh! Females.. they don’t know how to drive!, kind of look..! It’s graveling!

I won’t teach only.. will change my workplace for sure! With this thought when you enter the class and see that beautiful card on your desk automatically melts you down, and it instantly changes your mind! For it’s the students who matter and not anything else! Bliss!
September was indeed a lucky month. I attended the Women Summit and it was fantastic. You can read about it here. The results announced were pretty, giving no time to make the reservations and stuff. Realizing the fact it’s too late, I had almost said a No to the authorities, but A insisted to go for the same, even if I have to leave at 12 midnight. These small things automatically make my day. Even if I had not attended the event, I was still happy to know someone is there who care about stuff that matter to me.

Two day break, with the event, late night party, shopping, meeting friends with after a really long time and coming back only to be welcomed by my favourite set of people. Boom! What else do I want?!

Life is good. Only if you feel so!

Later part of the month was about watching a few movies and trying to bring back the lost reading habit: P

That is how September treated me. What did you do all September?

P.S: Sorry for not reading your blogs, but don’t I’ll compensate for sure :)

Reflections- June

It was a month that started with the hustle bustle of load many guests in the house. So many elders, so many kids and too many people in the house to spend their vacations at the same time! Scary as it may sound, but it was total fun. When my day started and when it ended, I have no idea. Playing Ludo till 4 in the morning, having golgappa party, jhalmuri party, classes, dance practice for the wedding, market, shopping, packing for the wedding..it was crazy. And fun.
These are the times, I believe, when family bonds with everyone. a little effort and a little help from everyone does wonders. Sitting around with everyone, chilling out, relaxing with every one, sharing their experiences, recipes, naughty gossips- it all becomes a part of family reunion. And I loved every bit of it :)

Later, there was a wedding in Calcutta, about which you can read here. I made a new friend there, for lifetime. Coming back trying to settle down was my priority, but again had to go my hometown due to an emergency. All is well now. I spent a lot of time with my parents and my brother and shared a lot. This time, I did not meet any of my friends in the city.. maybe I wanted the entire time for my family, maybe I didn't care enough to call and ask if anyone was in town. I may sound a bit odd, but it was a time that totally belonged to my family. I completed all the stuff that was there on my to-do list and met a few relatives. Something very tricky happened or rather, it didn't happen, but I observed something and I found it totally tricky. Will describe in some other post.

I was happy to be home (though my worked suffered a lot, but everything seems to be on track now). A, came to visit my parents. And his friends came the other day. We celebrated the anniversary of a dear friend. It was a blast altogether. Friends. Good times. Fun. It was perfect. I came back with new hopes and aspirations for my dreams. I discovered new bloggers and read some amazing stuff on-line.
I feel so blessed about getting into writing. It gives me immense peace and contentment.. with myself and everybody around.

How did June treat you? What did you do all month?

Thanks for dropping by

It's good to be back!

Back to my blog.. back to writing.. this couldn’t be any better. Last two weeks were crazy. First the guests, then a wedding in the family. Now, those of you who have been reading my blog lately, must be aware of it and the dance that came along with it, and those who don’t know, can read it here. The wedding was super amazing. And so was the city. Yes, it was in Calcutta. My first visit there. And I loved every bit of it. Though it was different than the other metro cities in the country, I liked it. Crowded the place it was and so was its traffic but the street food there, compensated for everything. It was mouth watering and delicious and spicy and yummy!! Mmmmm..
The evening of the functions, they were fantastic. There were so many people, hitting the stage and leaving their best impression. It was a bit nervous in the beginning for the dance that I had to do, but once the music was ON, all I could think of was to be in that moment and make the most of it. Obviously, I enjoyed to the full. Danced, just the way I always do, without any worries about what would every one think or say? I had to perform and I did.. with full energy and enthusiasm. Everybody loved our performance (me and my SIL) and I was so proud of myself. Dancing with her is kinda raising the already high benchmark more high, when you know you don’t even meet the regular standard levels! And later dancing on the floor, I was simply out of control! The beats, the music, the rhythm, the fun, the people, it was one terrific evening!

The cold coffee that was served was too yummy and I had such a good coffee after a real long time. And so, another SIL of mine (more of a friend though) and me, thought of a coffee competition! Yes. That’s true. We asked the people there, and guess what, they said it’s all finished and the guy who was making the coffee, he too had gone. Both of us were disheartened. None of us have had dinner coz we knew we’d be drinking down coffee. We requested them if anyhow it was possible for them to arrange. But they were sorry.

They were not aware of our competition for sure!

Within a few moments, I saw a waiter approaching me with a glass of cold coffee and my happiness was multiplied ten times.

“Thank you so much.”

“It’s our pleasure madam! We have more, do you want more?”

“Of course I want more. Bring as many glasses of coffee as possible”

“Sure ma’am”

O that moment was so exciting and thrilling! Our competition was a tie but we enjoyed it to the full! That evening was crazy and perfect and perfectly crazy :P.

I missed reading all the wonderful posts by my fellow bloggers, but will do it now. I felt really glad that my friends were visiting my blog and commenting, whereas I was unable to reciprocate. I think that is one thing that keeps one moving in blogosphere.  Had a good break.. and ate so much there. I wasn’t eating actually, I was hogging! My stomach was nothing less than a dust-bin, where I was throwing in all the trash that I had around me and it was all worth it!

What did you do all these days? Care to share?

P.S:  The file size of the video was too large, couldn't upload here.. Sorry!
