That moment when your anger is at the boiling point, and you have no idea what to do? When the wind is against you and you feel helpless for not being able to do anything about it. How does it feel?
I, for one, am one person who doesn’t lose my cool that soon. But when I do, I literally feel like smashing the other person’s face! Thoughts like why do I even know this person, why do I share a relation with this person, why can’t I boycott this person forever, is there a way if he/she can die, first see your mistakes you moron and then pinpoint me, we’re humans after all, we’re bound to make mistakes, etc etc etc. And above all, I feel helpless. Simply helpless.
Well yes, that’s me! It’s a rare situation but this phenomenon does exist!
Here are some tips that you can try for yourself. And these tricks do work for me. So yes, they’re tried and tested. You can thank me later.
1. When things go against you, it sure gets on the nerves. All you need to do is take a deep breath and try to resume to whatever you’re doing. Focus on your work or simply ignore the person/situation, according to your suitability.
2. Keep quiet and for God’s sake, shut your mouth! At least try. Anger can really mess things around. Keep your words as minimal as possible.
3. Think about the times, all the times when people agreed with you on everything you said. This is just a phase, and it’s temporary and it is okay to not have people back you up sometimes.
4. To bam that person’s head/face, should be the last thought on your mind.
5. Try to leave the situation, immediately. It sure helps in pacifying the anger.
6. Later, think of the ‘whys’, if it was your fault, admit it or at least don’t repeat the same mistake, again.
7. Do NOT play the Victim Card, please! That’s the worst thing you can do.
8. Last, shed a tear or two. Yes, I do that. It’s not deliberate, but it just happens and boy, it calms me down like no other trick above! :P I am a woman, what do you expect?! Well, that’s me, again!
So tell me which one works for you? And if there is anything else that you do, please suggest me too.
I’ve run out of ideas now. Need your assistance now.
I am taking my Alexa rank to the next level with Blogchatter.
Cheers
You know, I love your writing and posts.
ReplyDeleteBut let me confess, I love these numbered, 8 things to do/10things to do, posts the mostest!
This was such a fun read AND has some really wise, and simple to-do's woven in there. We've all messed up sometime or the other haven't we, when Anger is the trigger.
Shall try to follow them the next time I blow my fuse!:)
Thanks!:)
Awww.. That is so sweet of you to say. I'll try to write as many as such posts.. Only for you! You do and let me know how it works ;)

Interesting! I usuually follow #1 and #5 that helps me to calm down. Though, I do think I'll confess sometimes, I'm tempted to do #4 esp when the person will not listen to what I have to say because they're too busy talking about what they feel/think. I do think though, that we should all be angry with the right person and for the right reason, so it is not a bad emotion at all!
ReplyDeleteTry no. 4 and let me the entire scene post that! Glad to know you liked it!

No 5 all the time. I switch off and walk out of the room for a while. I discovered I had a temper only after the kids came along - before that I was this ever-smiling laid back person. They do try my patience and removing myself from them physically helps.
ReplyDeleteThat is one reason I'm scared of having kids!! Jokes apart, I'm glad you could relate with one of the ways!!

#5 is what works for me. But, of course, when you are angry you aren't thinking logically, so sometimes I don't get around to doing that right away.
ReplyDeleteYes, that is true as well, but we sure need to control our emotions, right?

Leaving the situation room is the best one can do. Most of the times the situation won't ask for a response later!
ReplyDeleteThat is such a valid point Alok and it makes so much of sense as well. Leave the situation and forget it forever :P

This was a fun read.Iliked it when you said, remember all the times people agreed with you.So true, difficult to remember when you are smoking angry. Will try these
ReplyDeleteDo try and let me know and I'm soo happy you liked it all!

Perfect tips, Geetika, even if some are really hard to follow on the spur of the moment! I normally don't get angry, but when I see a child or an elderly person being ill-treated, I just see red. Then I take a deep breath.
ReplyDeleteYes. I know they're difficult to follow in that moment, but what's the harm in trying?
DeleteGlad you liked it !

I have learnt to get up and walk away .. its taken a long long time .. but I do sometimes end up crying my eyes out after I have walked away.. maybe because the inner instinct of actually picking my hockey stick and whacking the person takes over ...
ReplyDeletealthough i need to change myself a lot more because in the last 3 years I have become so Angry and short tempered.. need to learn a lot more

Yes, you sure should learn to control your anger, no matter what. It only harms a person and nothing else!

It has taken me many years of patience to control my anger and outbursts. It irritates me the most when the opp person plays the victim card. I will surely use these tips whenever the need arises.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to know you learned it finally. And do let me know if these tips help you around!

Hahah. I am a short tempered person. I remember reading somewhere that crying is the point where your anger is at its peak. These tips I follow, but you can't bang people's head, although I wished to :P
ReplyDeleteI loved your points and GIFs.
Thank you so much Ramya. Good to know you liked it!

I think all of them are great tips. Normally, I prefer to back out and let things sink in before thinking with a calm mind.

I have been getting unnecessarily on my 1 yr old because of his antics and am guilty to death about scolding such a little one. But then one day i decided I wont get angry on him - or just keep quiet, divert my mind - just when i am about to burst. It has helped actually.
ReplyDeleteAccepting things and leaving them aside sure subsides the anger in us!
DeleteI hope your munchkin is just fine now!

I shout on people who matters to me most. People who does not matter me or just spending a few hours with me and gewt into my nerves. I simply ignore their words. But, at home.....ehhhh. When I am Angry, I dont know what I do! Tried all these steps, Alas!
ReplyDeleteHaha!! God help your dear ones!! You should figure some new steps and enlighten us!
